01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

One lunchtime diner chose 8 dishes, including tuna, prawn tempura nigiri, charcoal-grilled beef kalbi, grilled chicken and egg sushi. Sushi is the focus, but the chance to try meat and tempura dishes alongside it is part of the appeal at Sushiro Sekime. The diner seemed particularly taken with marinated tuna, charcoal-grilled beef kalbi and grilled chicken. These are ordered separately rather than served together on one plate, but the easy freedom to mix and match beyond seafood is part of the conveyor-belt sushi experience.

The menu also includes sets combining tuna, prawn, squid and salmon, among other choices, in portions for one. For a broad selection of familiar favourites, there is a 12-variety set; those keen to focus on tuna and salmon can opt for the 4-variety set, which also includes medium-fatty tuna and seared salmon. If you’d rather make something other than sushi the centre of your meal, the salmon and avocado poke bowl brings together salmon with sriracha, avocado, lettuce and tomato, among other ingredients. The rice portion is listed as 180g, and the bowl is described as one whose flavour you can adjust to your liking.

For dessert, options include silky mille crêpe cake and rich chocolate cake. One diner who visited on a Saturday afternoon enjoyed sushi followed by dessert. Whether eating with family or choosing favourite plates over lunch alone, diners can decide for themselves how much to order and what to combine.
